Acts 4:29-30

_[29]And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,_

_[30]By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus._

Have you ever noticed the difference between the seriousness and enthusiasm some Christians attach to “prayer against enemies” and an intercessory prayer for another believer or for a different purpose? Your guess is as good as mine. Some Christians with all their strength will clap and stamp their feet when praying against their enemies.

They forget the Bible is replete on how the New Covenant believer must deal with his enemies-

Romans 12:19-21

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink:…Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

So now you may ask, what do I do or how do I pray when they threaten my life? The answer is clearly written in the memory verse – you should rather pray for yourself for empowerment and boldness in order to continually deliver as God wants you to. Leave the curses, the fire raining and other sorts of punishment to the one whom vengeance belongs- God.

Pray to God to deal with them according to His mercies because your wrath (as a man) and vengeance produces only evil like that of Elisha (See Luke 9:54,55)

PRAYER: Oh Holy Spirit, help me to pray right when I am threatened by evil men. Enough of the vengeance prayer.

INSIGHT: Instead of wasting time raining fire on our enemies, let’s rather spend time praying for strength to carry on.
