Ephesians  5:19

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

A Pastor with a clerical in a bus receives a call, and his ringtone is a popular secular music. What will be your comment if you were seated in the bus? I’m sure you will be amazed that a ‘whole’ Pastor listens to such songs.

But do you think it is alright for a Christian – not a Pastor , to listen to such songs? It is interesting to find out that some Christians will answer in the affirmative. That shouldn’t be so. The Bible has clearly defined to us the kind of songs we ought to listen to. Songs inspired by the Holy Spirit, songs that agree with the Holy Spirit in you that they can be spiritually edifying.

Christianity is a life, and we are heading to a Kingdom made by God himself – Heaven, therefore if we can’t  subscribe to His laid down mode of adoration, then where is the proof that we will be able to join the four living creatures as they sing ‘Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God almighty’.

Dear Christian, you are not helping your inner man with those ungodly songs you enjoy listening. The criteria is clear that what you listen to or sing should be a psalm, hymn, spiritual song and songs that give glory to God.(Ephesians 5:19).

In case you have any doubts, just ask yourself, ” Am I led by the Holy Spirit to listen to or sing that song?”

PRAYER: Dear, Lord, Create in me the desire to love and sing not just any song, but songs inspired by the Holy Spirit.

INSIGHT: The songs we listen to have the capacity to edify or deaden your spirit man.
